Was Self-Publishing Comics Worthwhile in 2025?
Were the comics made? Were the funds raised? Were the stories read?
Now On Kickstarter
Let’s start this year-in-review post off with a look at a fresh start for 2026, the year-in-our-sights. On January 13, I launch a brand new comic series on Kickstarter:
Darkwoven has been in development for much of the latter half of 2025, and the first issue is finally ready. This new hard science fiction comic book series is equal parts dark cyberpunk and epic fantasy with direct parallels to real horrors in our modern world. Story & script by me. Art by Oscar Pinto. Color by Vito Potenza.
In a world where the dark web is a place of quantum banishment for enemies to the corrupt and the powerful, a couple and their unborn daughter are hunted down and captured for their very memories.
The very pregnant mother frantically rushes to escape a desolate prison compound while under constant surveillance by her mysterious captor and her AI-spawned insectoid drones.
Meanwhile, the father, his consciousness exiled from his body to the dark web, embarks on a mission to recover their surviving memory engrams, so he can restore their quantum consciousnesses and save them from deleted oblivion.
What I Accomplished Self-Publishing Comics in 2025
10 Successful Kickstarters
Yes, I’m a glutton for punishment, but, by God, every campaign funded, and, with some learning and implementation of new strategies, I reversed the disturbing trend of diminishing funding by year’s end. Oh, and the only one of these campaigns that isn’t completely fulfilled as I type this is the one that ended exactly one week ago (and it’s completely digitally fulfilled). BOOM. Here’s the Flatline Comics class of ‘25:
Last Ride of the 4 Horsemen: Tribulation 2
Nightmares & Esoterica
Gothic Horror Team-Up: Frankenstein's Monster & Cthulhu
Chainsaw Nosejob
Amandatory: The Collected Comics of Amanda Rachels
Baptizer & 10 More Alabama Nightmares
Last Ride of the 4 Horsemen: Tribulation 3
Vicious Circus: Halloween
Gothic Horror Team-Up: Dracula + Moby Dick
Vicious Circus: Christmas
4 Collected Comics Series
Yes, now in singular volumes are Chainsaw Nosejob, Amandatory, Vicious Circus: Halloween, Vicious Circus: Christmas. I’ve written before of the significance of the milestone of collecting a completed comic series between two covers, and, this year, we got to experience that accomplishment x4, including 3 titles that represent some of my most recent work, more representative of my progress as a writer and storyteller.
New Stories
For the past couple of years, I endeavored to close out comics series begun early in my writing career and start newer, bolder, deeper stories, and I did that. In 2025, I launched 2 volumes of Gothic Horror Team-Up and my first prose novel, Baptizer & 10 More Alabama Nightmares. Plus, we were fortunate enough to publish new horror comics from our partner, Erica J. Heflin, in her Nightmares & Esoterica collection. And another new property, Darkwoven, kicks off 2026 on Kickstarter two weeks from today, on January 13.
Honestly, we’re charging into 2026 with more momentum than we’ve had in years, and I’m excited. I’m glad you’re here beside with Amanda and myself.
Now In Pre-Press
I’m lettering Darkwoven, which is eating up all my pre-press time. I resolved to beef up the verbiage in my scripts, and I followed through on that promise to myself. So, lettering is more intensive, but it looks awesome, as you can see from the sample pages above.
Now in Fulfillment
Just waiting on the physical books for Vicious Circus: Christmas to arrive, which should start happening early next week. They’ll begin shipping out immediately upon receipt. I must be crazy as hell, offering THREE different trim sizes for this bad boy, but I’m excited to see the whole trio.
In the meantime, late pledges are OPEN!
