How Did My Accidental Kickstarter Launch Turn Out?
Not bad at all, actually, and nobody's more surprised than me.
If you read my post yesterday, you know I somehow (carelessly, that’s how) accidentally launched the Kickstarter campaign for my first-ever prose book a full 10 days early. Here’s a list of reasons why that was a problem:
Not all rewards had been created for the campaign, and NONE of the add-on rewards had been created.
The information on the book, the story, the author (me!) on the Kickstarter page was at the bare minimum to get launch approval from Kickstarter and insufficient to pitch the project to potential backers unfamiliar with me and/or this book.
I’d not yet fully entered pre-launch promotion and had only a handful of followers for the Kickstarter page.
So, given all that, how’d it go?
Great, as far as I’m concerned. I spent the two hours following the accidental launch frantically updating the rewards and add-on’s and fleshing out the information on the Kickstarter page. In the meantime, pledges were already rolling in. Friends, family, and fellow crowdfunders and Substackers are among those who backed the campaign thus far. Here’s where it stands as of the time I’m writing this post:
I set a modest ($500) initial funding goal for this project, as I had no idea what to expect in terms of support, as I cross over into prose for the first time. But, despite my early launch gaff, Baptizer nearly doubled its initial funding goal!
Thanks to each and every one of you who supported it with a pledge, a share, or a word of encouragement. You have my eternal gratitude.
The book will fulfill immediately upon the end of the campaign and resolution of all payments to Kickstarter. I’m putting the finishing touches on the book design this weekend, so it’s ready to order from the printer.
For those interested who haven’t yet checked it out, here’s a link and the lowdown on my first full-length prose book, Baptizer and 10 More Alabama Nightmares:
In Baptizer, a ritual-obsessed serial kidnapper sacrifices himself and his victims to the raging waters of a cleansing flood, polluting the streams and rivers and beaches of Alabama with the monster’s dark purpose and desecrated mind. Now, the water itself takes his form and continues his murderous mission, ever larger and ever more destructive with each mile it runs downstream, spawning supernatural abominations never before imagined within the Heart of Dixie.
